FAQ

Where are y0u based?

I'm based out of Dead Letter Tattoo in Aurora, CO.

2525 Geneva St, Unit 5
Aurora CO 80010

Do I need a consultation?

Short answer - maybe! Smaller, more simple tattoos (as well as pre-drawn designs) don't require a consultation. Larger, custom work will most likely require one though! If you're not sure, feel free to reach out via the contact form below and I'll be in touch with you shortly!

All consultations are free, but will require a $100 nonrefundable deposit in order to book an appointment.

How much will my tattoo cost?

The cost of any tattoo will be dependent on size, complexity, and even sometimes placement. The minimum for any tattoo is $100 and it goes up from there. I will always try to give an accurate estimate before the appointment and will try my best to work within my client's budget!

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept cash, credit card, mobile pay (Apple Pay etc), and Venmo!

How can I prepare for my appointment?

Make sure you come well rested, drink plenty of water and make sure to eat a full meal beforehand! Please refrain from drinking alcohol the night beforehand, since this can thin your blood and make the tattoo process a bit tougher on your artist as well as yourself! Feel free to bring along a snack and drink to the appointment as well as anything else that will help you stay relaxed (headphones, book, etc.).

Please reach out if you have any questions for your appointment!

How do I take care of my new tattoo?

You can either use ointment or second skin to heal your tattoo. Here's instructions for both!

Ointment:

After your procedure & you arrive home, wash your hands thoroughly & remove the bandage.

Carefully wash your tattoo with antibacterial soap and water. (Don’t re-wrap, your tattoo needs to breathe to heal.)

Gently pat the tattoo dry. Gently massage a thin coating of ointment into the tattoo.

Repeat this process 2-3 times a day.

In a few days, your tattoo will start to peel. This is normal. Do not pick at your tattoo. If the skin isn't ready, it can cause bleeding, scabbing and scarring.

After the peeling process is over, you can either continue to use ointment or you can transition to a fragrance-free lotion, just keep it moisturized to promote healing. If you let it dry out, it will take longer to heal & may cause scabbing.

For two weeks after your new tattoo is finished, please avoid chlorine and/or submerging your tattoo in water. Showers are ok.

Always protect your tattoo from the sun. The sun will fade a tattoo faster than anything else.

If you have any questions or concerns about your new tattoo,  please text me at 516-330-6842

If you think you have a serious medical issue or signs of infection (extreme pain, swelling, fever, yellow or green discharge) or allergic reaction, please immediately contact your healthcare provider.

Second Skin:

The first piece of second skin can be left on your new tattoo for up to 24 hours.

If you notice excessive weeping or fluid under the second skin, replace it with a new piece.

At the 24-hour mark, remove the second skin gently. Wash the tattoo area with a mild antibacterial soap and allow the area to dry. Once dry, apply a second sheet of second skin. This will stay on for up to 6 days and see you through the peeling stage.

Helpful Tips

Do not use a washcloth, loofah, or sponge to clean your tattoo. These can be painful to clean a new tattoo with and may harbor bacteria.

The best way to remove second skin is to find an edge of the bandage and then to pull it back over itself in the direction of hair growth. Pulling upward on the second skin can be painful, so we don’t recommend it. We suggest removing the second skin in a warm shower. The warm water will loosen the adhesive and make it easier to remove.

Make sure that you properly apply the second skin bandage (all edges are sealed) and leave at least 1 inch of buffer area around the tattoo.

Can I shower while wearing it?

Second skin stays on skin even when immersed in water... so you’re able to shower as normal. It is waterproof, however excessive exposure to water should be avoided because it could weaken the adhesion.

How many pieces should I use?

We recommend using two to three pieces per tattoo, in order to allow ample time for healing. Your first piece may be used for up to 24 hours, and the next pieces should be used 1-6 days each, depending on how much fluid the tattoo weeps.

Can I sunbathe with it on?

Second skin does not contain any kind of sun protection, so you should avoid prolonged sun or UV ray exposure. We do not recommend exposing your new tattoo to UV rays, ever - with or without second skin. Even after your tattoo is fully healed, continue to use sun protection to maintain the integrity of your tattoo colors.
